}

Summary

The Act on Promotion of Women's Participation and Advancement in the Workplace is a Japanese law passed in 2015 aimed at promoting gender equality in the workplace and increasing the participation and advancement of women in the workforce. The law requires employers with more than 301 employees to set numerical targets for the percentage of women in management positions, and to publish their progress towards achieving those targets. It also mandates that employers create action plans to promote the career development of female employees and to prevent discrimination and harassment. The law also includes provisions for encouraging the use of parental leave by both men and women, and for promoting the work-life balance of employees. Employers are required to provide information on the availability of flexible work arrangements, such as telecommuting, and to ensure that employees who take parental leave are not disadvantaged in terms of career advancement. Furthermore, the law establishes the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which is responsible for promoting equal employment opportunities for men and women and investigating cases of discrimination and harassment in the workplace.
